Eyelet was a trend spotted on several runways for spring. While it can seem girlish, I have to admit that after a long winter of wearing leather and fur, it feels refreshingly feminine.
I fell in love with a floral eyelet dress recently at The Limited. The fit-and-flare shape was perfect as it emphasizes my curves while hiding a stomach that isn’t as flat as I’d like. I decided to use it as the base for the outfit I wanted to put together to visit my family for Easter. I put together shots from several angles below and of course my cat insisted on being in one of them.
The dress is sleeveless and will be great by itself in summer. However, for our cool spring I decided to layer on a white sweater. Because a sweater can quickly add bulk I added a simple skinny belt to keep my waist visible.
The other necessity for me was a colorful heel that picked up the mint embroidery in the dress. Many runways showed kitten heels with the longer hem dresses, but I’m only 5’1 which means that kitten heels would have just made me look frumpy. To add some length to my frame, my new Vince Camuto Adrien heels were the perfect choice.
I decided to play up the 50’s element of the outfit by adding on a vintage hand-painted bag that I picked up from FashionFarmBoy. Finishing touches to pull everything together included a shell floral necklace from The Limited, a soft pastel cocktail ring from Aldo, and some simple pearl earrings from my jewelry box. The upstairs of my grandfather’s house provided the perfect backdrop for some of the pictures with it’s selection of vintage furniture .
