It’s been a long, hard winter, and spring is in the air (even if it is taking its sweet time about it.) As the frost melts it’s finally safe to let our feet see daylight – at least in small doses – which makes it a perfect time to try out my new Laila booties from Beau+Ashe.
At a glance, the Laila is an impressive sight. This velvet bootie begins with a towering six-inch heel (mercifully offset by a two-inch platform) featuring metallic detailing. The boot upper boasts a series of cutouts punctuated by metallic buckles working their way down the ankle and foot, which then concludes with a fun peep toe.
While I’m a fan of towering platforms, it’s definitely an extreme style and can wear thin over time (too much of a good thing…) But the Laila’s cutouts add a refreshing twist, giving them some extra sexiness while allowing them to be worn as fancy or as casual as you like.
For being six-inch heels, the Laila is surprisingly comfortable. This is largely due to the two-inch platform, but I also need to credit the small amount of padding at the ball of the foot. I stood in them for over an hour before needing to find a seat.
The construction of the Laila is decent for the price. The zippers work well, they fit true to size, and while the velvet isn’t the highest quality it still manages to look fantastic to all but the closest inspection. I’ve received a ton of compliments every time I’ve worn them out. At just under $60 from ShoeDazzle.com (and right now only $24.98 for VIP members) they’re really quite a steal.
These were my first shoes by Beau+Ashe. Having only been around since 2013 they’re just getting started, but clearly they’re going to be a brand to watch. I’m very happy with my Laila booties – they’re fun, have an attractive price, and strike a perfect balance between cute and tough.
