I have a confession to make – I’ve fallen utterly in love with Alexander Wang. The sophisticated, modern style of his shoes aligns perfectly with my tastes of late, and it’s long overdue for me to finally try a pair for myself. The Maria Peep-toe Mule seemed a perfect start. Normally $800, I was able to snag them for a mere $250 thanks to the virtual clearance racks at Shopbop.com.
The calfhair upper on these shoes is a dreamy cream color that’s classy-sharp yet soft and ladylike. The white leather of the sole gently curves up, hugging the arch to give the shoe’s profile a little extra definition. The inside is also leather, super soft and ridiculously comfy.
These shoes are from last fall (hence the great deal) but they seem perfect for this time of year. They look great with light-colored jeans or this season’s spring pastel dresses. And besides, Fendi has been trying to get us to wear fur in summer so I see no reason we can’t start early – especially when spring is as chilly as this one.
The Alexander Wang Maria Peep-toe Mule is an absolutely wonderful shoe. It looks fantastic and fits like a glove. My only complaint is that any joy I get from wearing them is met in equal part with utter terror of getting them dirty. White leather or suede is scary enough, but white calfhair… it takes every ounce of my courage to take them out of the box, let alone wear them outside of a hermetically sealed environment.
I should note that our video teaser for this review erroneously identified this shoe as the Miranda, which is actually the closed toe version of this same shoe. But this is actually a bit of a lucky twist, since the Maria appears to be sold out most places. You can find selected sizes of the almost identical (and certainly just as fabulous) Alexander Wang Miranda still available at The Outnet, or Barney’s Warehouse.
